Serving on a committee is a great way to get involved, learn new skills, and meet new people.  If you are intersted in this kind of community service, please call the office (770) 477-2367, or email us at the addresses provided below.

Events Committee Contact: Volunteer Coordinator volunteer@SCHabitat.org
The Events Committee supports Development staff in designing and running of SCHFH events including:

  • The golf tournament
  • The annual gala
  • "Celebrity" build appearances
  • Sponsored breakfasts
  • Other events that we may develop over time

  • Corporate Relations & Resource Development Committee Contact: Volunteer Coordinator volunteer@SCHabitat.org
    This committee develops and carries out strategic resource-development plans including:

  • Developing house sponsorships, employee work-days, matching donations, etc.
  • Making presentations to corporations (often lunch-time meetings)
  • Ongoing communications with corporations to illustrate the impact their support has on the community and in the lives of our partner families
  • Researching grant opportunities
  • Solicitation of in-kind donations from local businesses

    Out-going people with strong community ties and people who enjoy planning parties and special events, along with people who have professional resource development experience would be ideal.

  • Public Relations Committee Contact: Volunteer Coordinator volunteer@SCHabitat.org
    The Public Relations Committee works with Development staff on a variety of PR and communications endeavors:

  • Maintain relationships with media outlets.
  • Produce our quarterly newsletter
  • Create radio and TV public announcements
  • Write press releases, news articles and materials for fundraising campaigns.
  • Mailing and e-mail campaigns
  • Maintain our website, update our Volunteer Handbook; and advertise and promote special events and our annual homeowner application workshop

    Professional writers, photographers, graphic designers and media communications specialists are ideal for this committee.

  • Family Selection Committee Contact: Volunteer Coordinator volunteer@SCHabitat.org
    The Family Selection Committee promotes, plans and carries out our homeowner application workshops, screening all applications for financial qualifications, conducting home visits and interviews with financially qualified families, and selecting partner families.

    We are recruiting individuals with social work experience, and finance, banking or mortgage-lending professionals.

    Family Support Committee Contact: Volunteer Coordinator volunteer@SCHabitat.org
    The Family Support Committee is vitally important for the education and support of partner families. Committee volunteers help our partner families become successful homeowners through teaching classes and mentoring, fostering healthy decisions, and sometimes serving as family PALS (Partner Advocate Liaisons). Family PALS work closely with families to provide support and encouragement from the time the family is accepted as a SCHFH homeowner to one year after they move into their new home.

    Individuals with experience in social work, counseling, education, home maintenance and repair, or life-skills training are especially needed for this committee.

    Faith Relations Committee Contact: Volunteer Coordinator volunteer@SCHabitat.org
    The Faith Relations committee opens and maintains relationships between faith-based organizations and SCHFH. Committee members may serve in a variety of ways:

  • Serve as a church liaison for mission projects.
  • Make presentations or announcement at religious services or coffee hours
  • Provide monthly updates for newsletters or bulletins
  • Attend church picnics or pot-lucks

  • Building Committee Contact: Volunteer Coordinator volunteer@SCHabitat.org
    We are recruiting people with professional experience in some phase of construction management (purchasing, building inspection, engineering, teaching…) or other related building trades help us with our mission. Our Building Committee performs a variety of duties:

  • Recruits, trains and schedules house and crew leaders
  • Solicits in-kind donations of building materials and tools
  • Evaluates house plans and jobsite safety.

    This committee may work closely with members of the Site Selection Committee in evaluating properties for SCHFH use.

  • Site Selection Committee Contact: Volunteer Coordinator volunteer@SCHabitat.org
    The Site Selection committee works to locate affordable properties, to evaluate the suitability of land for development and of houses for rehabilitation, and to make purchasing recommendations to the Board of Directors. This committee may work closely with members of the Building Committee.

    Realtors and city or county planners are well suited to serve on this committee.

    Financial Oversight Committee Contact: Volunteer Coordinator volunteer@SCHabitat.org
    The Financial Oversight Committee is composed of active or retired business people, including accountants, lawyers, insurance specialists, bankers, and corporate executives. These volunteers support the Board Treasurer and Chief Operating Officer in monitoring the fiscal operation of the affiliate and planning for its future.
