How to Apply

This homeowner and her son are looking forward to building a life in their Habitat home.
(Mickey Desai/SCHFH)
You can pre-qualify for our application workshop by downloading and filling out our Pre-Qualification Form.  If you pre-qualify, you must attend our application workshop in order to receive an application.

Call us to learn when we will hold the next workshop.  Workshops begin at 9am, so please be there by 8:30am. Doors close promptly at 9am, and no one will be admitted once the workshop begins.  The workshop will take approximately two hours. We will be available to answer your questions after the workshop is finished.

The workshop will be held at our office:
170 Flint River Road
Jonesboro, GA 30238

The workshop is open to the public, however space is limited so we ask that everyone fill out the Pre-Qualification Form to receive an invitation. At the workshop, we will go over how to fill out the application and all of the required supporting documentation. You will have one month to provide SCHFH with a complete application packet. Please be aware the entire applications process (from the time you apply until the time you are in a home—if selected) can take up to two years.

Please include photocopies of the following documents with your application:

  1. Applicant(s) drivers’ license(s)
  2. Birth certificate for each person in household
  3. Social Security card for each person in household
  4. Last three year’s tax returns for each person who contributes to household income
  5. Previous month’s pay stubs for everyone who contributes to household income
  6. Last month’s rent payment
  7. Previous month’s utility bills
  8. Proof (official papers from an agency, not just a deposit statement) of all other income included on application (TANF, food stamps, court-ordered child support, SSI, SS, pension, Section 8 assistance, etc.)
  9. Recent credit report for all adults whose income is needed to qualify
  10. Criminal background check for each adult

Note: If you are "married but separated," under Georgia law, your spouse may be entitled to half of the property you obtain while you are married. You may also be responsible for half of his or her debt. These are things SCHFH must consider when reviewing your application.

Habitat follows a very strict nondiscrimination policy regarding gender, family/marital status, sexual orientation, religion, skin color, ethnic background, country of origin, age and disability. We do not discriminate in hiring employees or in selecting homeowners.

Although we are a Christian organization, we do not seek to convert our volunteers or our homeowners. Around the world and within the U.S., we serve those in need, whoever they may be. We gratefully welcome help from all who want to join our fight to make simple, decent housing a matter of conscience.

Government Funding
SCHFH houses are funded in a number of ways. For some of the homes we build in Claton County, we receive funding assistance from the Clayton County Board of Commissioners, through a HOME Investment Partner Act [HOME] Program grant, provided to Clayton County by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development [HUD].

Thank you for donating!
