JERRY PATE Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity is honored to have great American golf pro Jerry Pate be a part of our first-ever golf tournament. Born in Macon, Georgia, Pate won the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1974 and the following year he was a member of victorious U.S. teams at the Walker Cup and the Eisenhower Trophy. He was also the low amateur at the 1975 U.S. Open.
Pate turned professional in 1975 and was the medalist at the 1975 PGA Tour Qualifying School. He had a flying start to his professional career, winning the U.S. Open and the Canadian Open. He was selected as both Rookie and Co-Player of the Year. Six PGA Tour victories followed between 1977 and 1982, as well as several other titles around the world. In 1981 he was a member of a victorious United States Ryder Cup team. Mr. Pate returned to his winning ways in 2006 at the Champions Tour Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am event. Mr. Pate was inducted into the Pensacola Sport Association’s Hall of Fame in February 2008 on the heels of his Turtle Bay Invitational win in Hawaii.
