Chief Executive Officer

What are a couple things you enjoy doing in your free time? When I’m not working at SCHFH, doing City of Newnan business or community work, I like to squeeze in film and tv work, sporting clays with my .410 pump, and I still love watching gymnastics and cheerleading. I used to compete in both.

What are a couple of books we might find on your nightstand or end table? Lately most of my reading has been the Bible and leadership books. I use my Overdrive app to borrow e-books from the library.

What attracted you to Habitat in the first place?I have been an advocate of affordable housing since my senior architecture studio at Georgia Tech toured neighborhoods in Downtown Atlanta with Olympics officials. I realized on that tour that displacement was going to happen. That’s when I learned about gentrification. Habitat was one of the organizations that I saw along the way that dealt with affordable housing head on. Over time, the housing product and model have made a lasting impact in neighborhoods across the country.

What do you enjoy most about working with Habitat for Humanity? I love the model. I‘ve worked with other organizations that meet a higher income threshold for affordability. There is a greater level of mentorship, personal investment from the families, training from Habitat and a long-term commitment to assisting families. The partnership is very real. This isn’t a simple one-time transaction. We swim the race together with hopes that everyone swims to the finish line.

What are a couple things you enjoy doing in your free time? I enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes, especially when I can do it for small groups. Some people say I must have been a chef in a past life... Love to see my grandkids as much as I can, but unfortunately they’re all out in the Midwest, so that takes some planning to do.

What are a couple of books we might find on your nightstand or end table? Along with the Bible, the latest edition of Log Home Living (I really want one of those!) and Reader’s Digest.

What attracted you to Habitat in the first place?
What it stands for - Giving a hand up, not a hand out. Helping and serving not just the person but the community as well.

What do you enjoy most about working with Habitat for Humanity? The chance to use someone else‘s tools and not worry if I break them....seriously, it’s great to see a project go from hopeless to home like I’ve seen with some of the houses. Great people doing great work for the right reason.
