Today, 1 in 6 families spend at least half of their income in rent or mortgage, often choosing between paying for housing or purchasing food. When you add being a single parent and medical care to the equation, you get the story of Fatoumata Kankarafou. Fatoumata is a West African immigrant that learned about Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity while taking her oldest son, Samuel, to the Marcus Autism Center for behavioral therapy. She was raising four boys in a 2 bedroom apartment.
